Chinese Cultural Society (CCS)
Overall Teacher-in-charge: Mr Suah Yee Leng
CLDDS was holding Media drama group in 2008. Two year old Guzheng Ensemble and a newly formed Literary and Writing Club were merged into CLDDS in 2009; hence it was renamed as Chinese Cultural Society (CCS), to better represent the multi activity of the society which includes writing, drama and music. CCS aims to provide members a platform to better develop their skills and appreciation in Chinese language and culture.
华义中学中文学会
华义中学中文学会成立于2008年。本会创立的宗旨在于发扬与推广中华文化，提高同学们的华文程度，使他们了解华族文化及联络同学们的感情。目前，中文学会共包含三个小组：写作组、古筝组和戏剧组，为有不同喜好和专长的学生提供发挥不同才艺的平台。中文学会的负责老师如下：

Literary and Writing Club
Teacher-in-charge: Mr Suah Yee Leng
Resident Writer: Madam Ng Bee Hoon, President of Singapore Reading Development Association, HYSS Alumni
Literary and Writing Club aims to develop students’ skills to master Chinese language and literature. It identifies students with writing talents, provides them platform to pen down and to exchange their creative literary thoughts. Members learn to appreciate and to express in different genres of writing. Guided-reading sessions were conducted to strengthen students’ understanding of popular texts and appreciation in different genres of Chinese literature. Outdoor activities such as field trip to Chinatown was organised in order to inspire members to gain new insight from different perspectives to enhance their writing experience. The students’ works will be compiled and published in the school’s Chinese literary publication “Hua Yuan”. Some of their works were also selected and published in a well established local Chinese literary magazine “Equatorial Wind”. Members also took part in various Chinese essay competitions at national level to expand their learning experience and to build up confidence in writing.
写作组
写作组成立于2009年，现有成员12名，指导老师是本地作家兼新加坡读书会发展协会会长黄美芬老师。
写作组成立的宗旨是为提高学生华文写作水平，熏陶学生的审美情趣，培养学生的观察和想象能力，拓展学生的创造思维，同时挖掘潜质写作人才。除了例常的学习课以外，写作组也积极参加校内外活动，让学员们能从多渠道获取知识，开阔视野，激发他们对文艺创作的兴趣。今年，写作组参加了“2009年新加坡中学生华文创作比赛”、“2009年新蕾奖－全国学生华文写作比赛”、“2009年西区天高任鸟飞创意写作比赛”和“全国中小学现场华文故事创作比赛”等校外比赛。学员也参与了由教育部所主办的“驻校作家计划”，由新加坡著名作家、作家协会副会长艾禺女士为学员们提供写作方面的培训，借此增强同学们用华文写作的兴趣和信心，作品也投稿至教育部以结集出版。为配合“驻校作家计划”，学员们也参加了由海外作家主讲的的文学论坛《文学四月天》。此外，指导老师黄美芬女士也为学员们组织了户外写作活动，带领学员到牛车水捕捉灵感，让学员们能够从生活中找到创作泉源。为了鼓励创造、奖掖后进及表彰精品，学员们的优秀作品也将选录在校园文集《华苑》以及第75期《赤道风》四月刊的“青少坊”栏位中。

Drama Club
Teacher-in-charge: Mr Chen Xiao Jun
Drama club provides a platform for students to showcase their talents in directing, acting, and photography. Members have hands-on experience in making short film projects. They experienced the entire journey of conceptualization to completion, from planning, scripting, directing, shooting and to editing. The members’ movie clip which showcased our student’s campus life was selected by Media Corp’s Roving DV contest and broadcasted nationwide on Channel 8 in January. The club also took part in the 2nd National Secondary Schools Chinese Short Film Competition and the production was nominated for the Best Director award. In its aim to provide a holistic education for the students, through the platform of trainings and competitions, the Drama club sparks the students’ imagination, encourages the teamwork spirit and enhances inter-disciplinary learning.
戏剧组
戏剧组成立于2008年，现有成员12名。戏剧组成立的宗旨是为以文艺和戏剧鉴赏为兴趣的激发点，并辅之以基本的戏剧理论和摄影摄像技巧训练，再加以实际的剧本编写和新闻短片实作练习，让学员们从中发挥潜能，提高胆识及建立自信心。今年，戏剧组参加了“DV校园华语新闻制作比赛”，学员们所制作的华语新闻《小小植物园》也于1月24日在新传媒第8波道播出，此外，戏剧组也参加了“第二届全国中学华语短片比赛”，并获得最佳导演的提名。戏剧组参加的校内外活动和比赛还包括 “报业控股中学生媒体营”、“第三届全国小学双语硬笔书法比赛”和“新春庆祝会”等。戏剧组的愿景是希望吸引更多对华文戏剧感兴趣的学生加入，并给予学生一个展示自我、锻炼自我的舞台，提高他们的人文及艺术素养。

Guzheng Ensemble

The Guzheng Ensemble was formed in 2007 to promote interest in Chinese cultural music among members, as well as to build up their character, team spirit and leadership qualities. The Guzheng Ensemble today has certainly grown from a small group with less than ten members to a stronger and united one of guzheng musicians . 2009 has been a fruitful and meaningful year for us. As a first time participant in the Singapore Youth Festival Competition, we clinched a Silver Award. We also put up performances at our school’s public concert and Speech Day’s concert. As a young ensemble, we had put in a lot of hard work and efforts to prepare ourselves for the challenges. Our hard work and efforts are finally paid off. The Guzheng Ensemble promises to strive for the best and continue our mission to develop our members into musical talents and in lifelong appreciation of guzheng music.
古筝组
华义古筝团成立于2007年，目标是提升团员们对华人传统音乐的兴趣，同时也注重培养团员们的个性发展、团队精神和领导能力。除此之外，也想通过各种类型的音乐来提高团员对华族传统文化的理解和欣赏。古筝团由2007年的几个人发展到现在的十九人，团员从不了解古筝到可以表演古筝乐曲，她们也希望通过自己的努力，可以带给观众更多不同的全新体验。2009年，对华义古筝团来说，是收获多多的一年，参加了数次演出和比赛。二月，参加了学校筹备已久的校外演出，三月，在学校一年一度的颁奖礼上进行了表演。尤其是四月，参加了2年一届的新加坡青年节的比赛，第一次参赛就取得了银奖的好成绩。通过参加这些活动，古筝团的成员们也变得越来越成熟，在音乐之路上也会走得更加坚定。无论将来还会遇到多大的挑战和困难，团员们决心尽一切努力，不断提升音乐技能，抱着坚定的音乐理念继续走下去。
